System of a Down are hitting the road once again! After a break from touring which has lasted well over a year, System of a Down are revving up once again for a tour to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide.
April 24, 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide, which was carried out by the Ottoman Empire. 1.5 million Armenians were killed during the period of ethnic cleansing, and throughout System of a Down’s career, the Armenian-American quartet has brought awareness to the tragic event.
System of a Down’s 2015 ‘Wake Up the Souls’ tour will consist of seven performances, concluding in Armenia for the SOAD’s first-ever gig in their homeland. “As a band, it’s been one of our dreams to play in Armenia,” says vocalist Serj Tankian. “To be able to play in the homeland of our forefathers while respecting the memory of those that perished in the first genocide of the 20th century will be an honor.”
