#TurkeyFailed represents survival. On April 24th, 1915, the Ottoman Empire began to execute a systematic effort to exterminate all Armenians. On that day, they rounded up and deported 250 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders. This became the first step of the first genocide of the 20th century. Over the next three years, 1.5 million Armenians were deported and murdered. However, to this day, the Armenian people and nation still fight for recognition for their ancestors. The Turkish government continues to deny their crimes and motives, and the Armenian people continue to fight for justice. The Armenians are still here and remind the world that #TurkeyFailed.
As William Saroyan said, “For when two of them meet anywhere in the world see if they will not create a new Armenia.” That is exactly what has been done. #TurkeyFailed represents the existence of the Armenian people and their will to survive. Whether it be weekly gatherings at local Armenian clubs or small communities in which Armenians live, a new Armenia is created in everything we do and everywhere we go. Armenians have made it through hardships that should have destroyed them and turmoil that was meant to eliminate Armenia’s existence on this earth. Fortunately #TurkeyFailed, and it is time the rest of the world know this.
#TurkeyFailed simply represents that Armenian’s are still here with a vengeance and stronger than ever, constantly working toward the justice and awareness that all Armenian people need.
